In many cases a fungus is responsible for your dandruff problems. Science has developed many ways to combat fungi. The particular fungus that causes dandruff feeds on fats that are emitted by your hair follicles. The presence of this fungus is actually a sign of a healthy head, so don't worry about it laying alien eggs in your skin. This fungus only becomes a problem when its growth accelerates to an extreme. An overpopulation will cause irritation and may speed up skin cell renewal. You get the itchy scalp you are probably familiar with.

There are several ways you can try fighting dandruff, some are very effective home remedies for dandruff:


- Wash your hair every day. Do try to use a natural shampoo or at least one that doesn't further irritate your skin!


- Leave the shampoo in your hair for 8 minutes before washing it away with water. Some reports suggest that the ingredients of the shampoo become more effective. This depends on your personal situation, however. Worth giving a try.


- Lather twice for maximum cleansing. The first lather removes a large part of the dandruff, but the second one will remove any leftovers.


Don't be afraid to try several brands of dandruff shampoos. Your skin may respond to certain ingredients better than others.
